Online games as a dating service

      By Ravenhawk | January 14, 2007

Now, everybody has heard of those couples who meet on a game, love sparks, they meet in real life, get married, and live happily ever after while dungeon crawling together on MMORPGs.
That is not what I’m discussing here.

The subject of this rant is a little more juvenile. I’m talking about those younger, usually around 12-14 year olds who go on games and say “looking for gf!” or “Need rich boyfriend!”
With the second one, at least their motive is clear as you know they’re a gold digger. But that doesn’t make them any less annoying. Im usually a rather firm proponent of letting people do as they please as long as it doesn’t harm others. So, I don’t have a problem with the idea of people dating on the internet. I just having a problem with them spamming my chatspace with their desperation.

I think there are very few people who aren’t annoyed with the desperate preteens. I know this sort of this isn’t new; it’s been happening on forums forever. But I wish I didn’t need to see it on my games. I notice it tends to happen more in MMOs like Puzzle Pirates and RO, where there is in game down time. I haven’t really seen it in games like GunZ, Gunbound, and other games where the action doesn’t stop unless you’re in a lobby.

Not that I have problems with downtime.
It’s just a theory. Maybe the desperate teens are motivated by boredom?
Whatever the motivation is, it really needs to end.
I’m tired of saying. “This is an inn, not a dating service.”
