      By Ravenhawk | July 1, 2007

As of Friday, the Rumble Fighter Open Beta session (Also known as Beta 3) has begun! This means that those of you who didn’t get a chance to check it out during the short Beta 2 session now have a chance to play. This one is going for an unspecified length of time, so I’d assume it’ll be in beta for awhile. Considering Albatross18 is still called beta and its been out for months…

For those of you who missed my earlier postings about rumble fighter, it’s a pretty rad skilled based MMO fighting game. If you took part in beta 2, make sure you log on so you can get your free hurricane pendant!

      Rumble Fighter first look

      By Ravenhawk | June 7, 2007

So, in my last post about this game my friend told me about, Rumble Fighter, I said it was a sidescrolling fighting game like Street Fighter. This was going off of the description given to me by my friend who was in the first phase of the beta. Turns out I was a little confused.

As of tuesday, Rumble Fighter has entered into a week long open beta phase. And, having been energized by reading up on the website, I decided to download it myself and play. Turns out its 3D, so it’s a little better comparable to Soul Caliber than Street Fighter. Right now the game seems to be a bit buggy, and the games aren’t starting when there are a lot of people in them, but things like this are rather expected in a beta game.

It is definitely a skill based game. This should go without saying, being a fighting game, but you never know with the online types. I did the tutorials and they were straight forward enough. Then I did the survival mode, which basically consists of fighting a gradually growing number of npcs. Then I moved on to playing a couple regular games. It took awhile to find one that worked, as it has to synchronize the connections of all the players in the game, there are a lot of chances for lag. I continually would find myself plagued to where, because my opponent’s connection was less than desirable, I’d watch my super attack fly right through them, doing no damage, and then they’d proceed to pound the heck out of me.

I made the mistake of immediately going for the equipment with the best looking bonuses, however, due to the fact that the gloves I bought lower my speed ever-so-slightly, I can never land punches before they do, as their attacks are slightly faster. It’s quite annoying. I’ll try removing them as I play later games.

Overall, the game looks to have a lot of potential for the future, although I wouldn’t try playing just yet if you’re looking for a polished game. It is, after all, beta.

      MMO Fighting Game: Rumble Fighter

      By Ravenhawk | June 5, 2007

I apologize for missing my weekend post, I went to work, came home, passed out, and spaced it. In other news, a friend dropped me a link yesterday to Rumble Fighter, a new game currently in its second phase of beta testing. He’s been taking part in the beta from the start and says it is generally an awesome game.
It’s a side-scrolling fighting game like Street Fighter. You choose one of four classes, who all have distinct stats and abilities. There are different modes of play, including FFA brawls, King of the Hill, and a couple other interesting sounding things.
You can customize the look of your fighter with items like cool hair, different clothes, flags, etc. Fighters are ranked on a variety of statics and when you get in the top fighters, you get different flags and things to equip to show off your awesome peak rankings.
Controls are done with the keyboard, but I know my friend used his controlpad to play so, you could map the buttons to whatever device you feel like fighting with.

After reading all the stuff about it, I personally was totally pumped to play. Sadly, I don’t know how long it will be until the game is open for play, I think it has at least a couple more phases of beta to go through. I’ll be prodding my friend to keep me updated on awesomeness as he goes through the beta, and if there is any news, you’ll get it here.

ijji is now accepted beta tester applications

      By Ravenhawk | May 28, 2007

ijji, producer of a few of my favorite online games (Namely GunZ, Gunster, and Gunbound as well as some others) is currently accepting applications for people interested in taking part in closed beta testing for them.

One of my friends was already accepted and I just turned in my application. You can read the news posting here or just apply to test. I think it’d be a great opportunity to test some awesome games as they roll out some really cool stuff. Testing that new pool game would be awesome..

Anyway, just thought I’d drop the line out to my “loyal readers” as beta testing games is a dream of a lot of gaming people.

      Beta testing goodness

      By Ravenhawk | November 29, 2006

There is something about beta testing a game that is highly appealing to a lot of gamers. Maybe its being able to feel that you were part of the creation process. For many its being first to play a game. For others its just a chance to play a game for free, thus the popularity of open betas.
I always love being in closed betas because I got to feel cool. One of the “Chosen.”

Betadogs is always a good site to check out if you’re into that. I first discovered them back when I was working as the marketing guy for a game known as Unknown Abyss. Anyway… They often have a lot of cool deals going on to get people into open, and sometimes closed, betas. They’re a good watch dog if nothing else, if you want to watch out for betas to play in. Right now there’s a short sign up period for an open beta with Last Chaos. It looks like a rather cool game with some sweet systems. I particularly like the look of the “Personal Dungeon System”. Yes, I love MMORPGs because of the cool communities, but when I level, I prefer to do it by myself. Or be the heal bish. Not sure exactly why I like being support or alone, but those are the roles I go for… anyway, I’m digressing. I’ll probably opt not to sign up for this one as I’m busy with other games.

However, I got an email awhile back that I was selected for round two of a closed beta. I was rather bummed when I missed out on round one. I’m not supposed to tell anyone so no one gets sad that they were selected for round two, though. So I’ll be shush shush.
      Until I play it anyway.
Then you’ll get all the cool details, and probably a nice post-beta review.
If I see any other cool games or deals, I’m send ‘em your way.

      Until next time, comrades.
