    • Revisionism Watch 2008; The Intro

      By Ravenhawk | January 9, 2008

The path of revolution is a rare one in the United States; The long anti-communist history of the nation has pruned the lines of radical leaving those who remain to have few choices remaining but a revisionist path. Revisionism; The creation of a socialist state by altering the current capitalist system within it’s own rules.

The question posed before the socialist of today who would see hope on that path is the following: Who do you pay your vote in order to make a step towards that state? It becomes painfully obvious rather quickly that one is selecting the lesser of evils. Unless the rules regarding “third parties” can be changed, there is no hope of a real socialism coming anywhere in the foreseeable future. Between the two parties, obviously the democrats are better, but there is much confusion over who within the democrats to select..

Revisionism Watch, as this collection of posts shall be called, shall follow the various candidates in their attempts to take nomination (and likely election) into the seat of power over the world’s most powerful capitalist nation. And of these candidates, who may do the most harm to any hopes of revisionism and who just might do a bit of helping…

So, why all this "Socialist Gamer" business

      By Ravenhawk | May 12, 2007

I believe its a rather common thought when one looks at the title of my blog is, “Why so specific? Why do we care if you’re a socialist as opposed to any other gamer?”
After all, you don’t see republican gamers or fascist gamers touting their political orientation with the fact that they game, do you? (Well, yes, actually, you do. Do a quick google search..)
The difference of course being that many people figure socialists would be opposed to games on principle due to the fact that you could be doing more productive things with your time that just sitting around and entertaining yourself.
Well, first, it’s my opinion that that is wrong. However, rather than go into that at the moment, I’m instead working on a big long article to back up my point on the matter.
The difference is really, I think, if you’re talking to your typical run-of-the-mill conservative or liberal gamer, its pretty easy to tell. However, if you’re talking to a socialist gamer, unless you get them on some rather specific subjects, you’re not going to be able to tell that they’re a socialist.

Besides that, calling yourself a “Communist Gamer” is just oxymoronic. Socialist Gamer I can rationalize. Communism is a different matter altogether. Of course, calling yourself a communist period when the world is still a capitalist one is rather contradictory. But Shhh, don’t quote me on that one. I wouldn’t want to distance my peers or… something…

      Until next time, Comrades.

      Maple Storytime, again.

      By Ravenhawk | March 27, 2007

So, I was convinced yesterday at my lunch break to download Maple Story. I played in the closed beta, but got frustrated with the game’s slow pace.

Upon playing again I joined the new server. I was slightly amused to note that they are about three or four times the number of quests of noob island than there used to be. And there are portable chairs. I must say its rather nice: When you run out of HP, and you’re super tired, instead of standing around waiting for your life to magically return, you can relax in your little chair.

I was rather Saddened that the name I went by on both of the servers I previously played on, PoringHunter, was taking. I like hunting porings that happened to be in a different game thank-you-very-much. So, now I have a hunter in the works named MajorKarl, (It was going to be MajorMarx, but I got confused as I was playing with too many names) and a Permanovice named NewbCommie.

I have a bit of an attachment to permanovices/beginners as a class. In ragnarok online, I struggled my way to level 40 as a novice in order to become a Super Novice. To my great amusement, I discovered that the Super Novice change npc was a communist. He described Novices as the working class struggling with the labour of defeating small monsters and getting little pay while the other classes hunted great things and got shiny items. The Super Novice was the revolutionary of the Novices, they used the abilities of all other base classes against the oppression of high level monsters to prove the great strength of working class!

Okay, so maybe he was less in depth than that, but thats how I saw it. So, anyway, yes. I probably won’t play much this week as I have a math test to take three times, a program to write inventorying M&Ms, and some meetings to attend for the writing of a Bioethics paper…
But once I get out of homework land, the workers shall prevail! Maybe…

Maple Story doesn’t have a Super Novice class.

      Until Next Time, Comrades.
