Chore Wars!
By Ravenhawk | July 23, 2007
As you may know, there are a few things which really get me excited with games: Creativity, innovation, and unique ideas. Chore Wars definately takes care of those. Or at least the creativity and unique idea parts.
The idea is basically this: You create your character on Chore Wars and then you and the people you live with join up in a “Party.” You then create adventures, which is basically your list of chores. Then when you’ve done that chore in real life you claim the chore on chore wars and gain experience, gold, and treasures.
The game has only been out for a few days, so the features are too large beyond that, but they plan on adding in something so you exchange your gold for real life favors and goodies (Like making your roommate get you icecream)
Of course the game only works if all your room mates are up for it, but mine is, so it’ll be amusing to play the game. Of course, like many games, you could Power level but it’s probably not worth it.

Persistant Browser Based Games
By Ravenhawk | March 12, 2007
Back before I had a good computer that could handle games with any semblance of graphics or CPU usage, I used to play a lot of Browser Based RPGs. Regardless of the simple graphics and equally simple gameplay, many of them were quite fun.
Now-a-days a couple things have happened. The first is that a flood of Crime and Pimp theme games flooded the market. Second was that I began playing games that are actually downloadable.
But recently, as I’m considering learning PHP, I began looking into the Browser Based games again, this time from a developing standpoint. As I was searching, I discovered the “Persistant Browser Based Game” movement. Basically, its all about coining a term, and therefore a more solid identity, for the type of games I used to play.
While still being a very broad genre, PBBG’s are games which require nothing but an internet browser and in which progress is made through more than one gaming session.
It may seem like an insignificant movement to many, but its about time this group had its own identity..
